What is the best time of the year in 2013 to buy a digital camera?

Q. I figured before Christmas of 2012 would be a bad time to buy one, but what would be the best time of 2013 to buy one, taking product cycles into consideration? I don't know too much about that, really. Thanks for any input!

A. The best time to buy a camera is now.

If you wait until tomorrow when the prices may have dropped you have wasted another day not having a camera. Because tomorrow arrives and tomorrow they may be cheaper... another day of your life gone.

How much waste would an independent accounting agent find if they audited the government?
Q. We keep hearing about debt ceilings, deficits, sequesters, budget cuts, and we're constantly being threatened with shorter school days and fewer public services like cops and firefighters if we don't vote to support higher taxes. But I wonder how many BILLIONS in waste we would fine if we were to hire the best accounting company in the country to audit the federal government? How much ridiculous WASTE do you think they would find?

Here are just a few examples:

* Washington spends $25 billion annually maintaining unused or vacant federal properties.

* Government auditors spent the past five years examining all federal programs and found that 22 percent of them — costing taxpayers a total of $123 billion annually — fail to show any positive impact on the populations they serve!

* A GAO audit classified nearly half of all purchases on government credit cards as improper, fraudulent, or embezzled. Examples of taxpayer-funded purchases include gambling, mortgage payments, liquor, lingerie, iPods, Xboxes, jewelry, Internet dating services, and Hawaiian vacations.

* Federal agencies are delinquent on nearly 20 percent of employee travel charge cards, costing taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars annually.

* The federal government owns more than 50,000 vacant homes.

* Members of Congress have spent hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars supplying their offices with popcorn machines, plasma televisions, DVD equipment, ionic air fresheners, camcorders, and signature machines — plus $24,730 leasing a Lexus, $1,434 on a digital camera, and $84,000 on personalized calendars.

A. I would guess around 30% of budget

Sony digital camera( DSC-TX30/B)....this camera good or no? please tell........?

Q.

A. Here is a review
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sony-cyber-shot-dsc-tx30
Within the category of immersible compact cameras, its image quality is probably among the best in the studio test, although that is not a category with spectacularly great image quality. In the real world comparison tests it seems to have fallen a bit below the competition.
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/2013-waterproof-roundup/14
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/2013-waterproof-roundup/15
It is the lightest and most compact within that class. However, it is not a very easy camera to handle for actual diving.

With any compact camera you should use a wriststrap, and all the more so when handling these water resistant cameras in the water. with no floatation attached, they will sink.

For diving the Canon D20 has an advantage with the best ergonomics. Image quality is good for its class with least noise reduction smudging or highlight clipping. The Nikon AW110 is a very good overall performer for its class in image quality and has least chromatic aberration. The Olympus TG-2 gains an advantage in low light with its f2 lens. For video with real time sound, its sound gets terrible when immersed in water.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBFwthdyXRQ
The Pentax WG-3 also has an f2 lens, but its images were rather dull in this test
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jnxn_Ng-1U8
The Panasonic TS5 seems to produce some nice images, and it has the best video options, but its autofocus is sluggish.

A peculiar thing about the Nikon AW110 is that they package it with a neckstrap and advise against using a neckstrap in the water for safety reasons. An aftermarket wriststrap should be purchased for it.

Canon Eos 600D (Rebel T3i) vs Sony Alpha SLT-A58?
Q. I am a newbie in photography...This is going to be my first DSLR camera
I have these two choices-
Sony Alpha SLT-A58 and Canon EOS 600D (Rebel T3i)

I really dont know much about cameras so id like your opinion with pros and cons.

Also-
Assume there are two lenses
18-55mm and 50mm

What is the difference?
If we buy the 18-55 we can adjust it to 50mm which would give the same effect as 50mm so why buy another 50mm lense?
(I really dont know about lenses too so i might have said something stupid above ..Please clarify it for me)
Nick,
So Canon Eos600D vs Sony Alpha SLT-A58
Which would u choose and why?

A. Both are great cameras. Either one will make happy. They both have more features than most of us would need in day in day out photography. If you are able to get-over Canon syndrome, I would recommend buying A58 as it has better image quality, AF in video and overall better video recording abilities and is lighter and thinner. Sony normally gives better features such as in camera HDR, fast auto focus, panoramas.

With regard to lenses, one very important number is F. 50mm lenses are prime lenses and they are usually much faster, sharper than 18-55mm kit lenses. Also, they can be used in low lights and for great portraits compared to 18-55mm lenses. Being fixed at 50mm focus length, you can not zoom but at wide aperture they give excellent background blur which wills stand out. Sony has 50mm F1.8 lense for around $180 or you can buy a used one for around $100. I would strongly recommend you to buy that lens too. If you want to buy only one lens, I would tell you to buy a fast 50mm lens if you are shooting mostly indoor and mostly people or pets.
Here is a photo I took on Pentax k-01 with a 45 year old 50mm lens. My friend had a camera 3 times more expensive but it struggled to shoot in this light.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/12298420@N05/8446183616/

As other answerer has mentioned, Pentax makes great cameras. K30 and K01 have great image quality and are sold at very attractive value prices.

Read this article to get over which camera is better dilemma:

What's some advice for visiting Fairbanks over Christmas?

Q. I'm from Southern California and I'm visiting Fairbanks this december. What's some advice? How cold is it really? What are some must-see activities?

A. OK this does not have to be a bad idea, shame that some people are so negative about it.
Not everyone hates the cold, and it is actually the extremeness of winter that makes Fairbanks really special for many of us.

Layers are key. Avoid cotton (especially socks) If you are planning on organized outdoor activities many provide a parka and appropriate boots. But you should come with layers that include good long johns, wool or synthetic socks, and a decent pair of boots. A hat, gloves, and neck gator or scarf. Sweater or fleece pullover, and heavy pants. You may be able to use boots you already own inside a pair of insulated Neos (google NEOS overboots). And a heavy parka. If you are here for awhile you can grab one locally. Lots of options for shopping and they will have any gear you may want.

Yes it can be brutally cold. (-40 is not unheard of) But amazingly enough we have this thing called heating, and buildings have it, so you will not be freezing to death. (unless you do something kinda stupid that you are unprepared for) Oh and we also have these neat little vehicles called taxi's and they are warm and driven by people who drive up here all the time. (amazingly enough Fairbanks does not shut down in the cold of winter, we are all pretty used to it by now) *although Thank you is right about driving if you are not used to it, do be careful. And the Pedro monument is excellent for Aurora watching. Things will be lit up for the holidays, and there are usually holiday bazaars, many of which showcase native crafts. But excellent carving and bead wok can also be found in the shops on Second Ave downtown or at the UAF museum.

There is lots to do year round, here is just a taste:
and our local paper will have events listed as well (scroll down to calendar)
http://www.newsminer.com/

Cultural Center & Museum - inside and offer special programs year round, check closer to your visit for current info.
http://www.morristhompsoncenter.org/
http://www.uaf.edu/museum/ - also check the UAF community calendar for other events on campus.

In the winter Chena Hot Springs is super fun, sit outside at sub zero in a natural hot springs (you can freeze your hair into some really cool punk rock styles). They also have other activities, and rent arctic gear to guest for their visit. They are about 50 miles from town (they have a van service) so you could plan to spend a few days there and then the rest of your stay in Fairbanks.
http://www.chenahotsprings.com/

Our local mushing club will be holding sprint races in Dec. (they have a heated clubhouse with viewing if it is too cold outside)
http://www.sleddog.org/races/2012-2013-race-schedule-and-results/

The local chamber of commerce has an events calendar, and the First Friday shows are worth checking out (you can go downtown and easily walk between a number of the galleries and participating business)
http://fairbanksalaska.com/events/first-friday/

And in North Pole they will be having the Winter Carnival and Christmas in Ice, as you might imagine they really go all out for Christmas in North Pole:
http://www.explorefairbanks.com/events

If you do not have people in Fairbanks and are looking for a little more assistance Go North is well respected
http://www.gonorth-alaska.com/index.php?id=243

There are a number of good hotels and B&B's in Fairbanks, many are right downtown if you want to minimize driving or cab fares.

Silver Gulch in Fox is an excellent brew pub, Lemongrass has GREAT Thai food, Turtle Club is known for prime rib, LuLu's is an awesome bakery coffee shop, good food is not hard to find.

FYI, chemical hot hands are your friend, and can be purchased up here. Worth having some even if you don;t need them, because they are cheap and frostbite sucks.
Regular batteries freeze and are useless at sub zero temps, so if you use batteries make sure to get lithium, they handle the cold (although your digital camera might not like it, keep it in an inside pocket till you want to shoot).
And it is nice to have a little LED headlamp, they are cheap and small and a really nice thing to always have on hand. Petzl makes good ones, you don't need the big fancy one, a little $15-20 will work nicely, just use lithium batteries.

Now you do not mention why you are coming or what you want to get out of the vacation, so I can not really be specific. But the point is, do not let other people's negativity stop you from what could be an amazing adventure!!

How would I go about filming a documentary on my senior year?
Q. I'm about to enter my senior year of High School and I'd like to film the senior year of my friends and I from the last weeks of summer of 2013 till the day before we all leave for our respective universities. I've had this idea for quite some time but im not quite sure how to go about it like should i film in school? or could i even film in school? What aspects should i capture? If one of us mistakenly or purposely does something illegal could we get in trouble if it is on film?
I plan to show the film probably for our five year class reunion
Also, which would be the ideal camera for filming and what editing programs should I use. Any and all input is greatly appreciated!

A. If you really want to know how its done then just go out their and do it. That is really the best way to learn.

1:
It might cost you some money but if you go to Radio Shak (or shop around on the net) you could see about getting some sort of little camera that you can conceal like in your hat or something. I would suggest using two cameras at all times film your documentary, one that is concealed and one is a small handheld.

2:
When filming just be casual and relaxed don't act nervious or suspicous because this will draw unwanted attention to yourself. Just act normal, you are not really doing anything wrong anyway.

3:
The first thing you should think about is that you don't need to make a spectacle of the fact that you are making a documentary, the less people who know the less oppisition you will have from anyone.

4:
You don't even have to tell people right away (around or after graduation) because it will be more of a surprise to everyone when you show it for reunion.

5:
Your filming should focus on all of the fun things including your friends and teachers who are close to you. Don't forget to included yourself if you also want to be in your documentary, maybe have someone else take turns filming for you.

6:
Try and make people feel special and capture the special moments even for the social outcasts, just generailly try and make people feel good about themselves.

7:
Stay away from contraversial issues. don't film anything that would hurt anyone because this will just turn something good into something bad.

8:
You should film all the major events like dances, homecoming etc etc.

9:
When filming try and be within a reasonable range so that you get really good sound and picture quality.

10:
Be really mindful of the fact if you are moving around a lot, up and down etc. etc. then the video is going to be very shaky and no one likes watching shaky, bouncy, bad quality video.

Try and use a tripod whenever possible probably at like events.

11:
whatever footage you get you should upload it to your computer daily that way in case someone does attempt to keep you from filming a documentary you will still have some footage. YOU SHOULD SAVE AND UPLOAD THE FOOTAGE YOU GET ON A DAILY BASIS.

INDIEGOGO .COM is a very popular crowdfunding website among independent /short film producers, this might prove to be an invaluable resource to you as well.

It would probably help for you to read this list of books

by Thomas A. Crowell (Paperback)

2: All I Need to Know about Filmmaking I Learned from the Toxic Avenger
by Lloyd Kaufman (Paperback)

Any of the books by Lloyd Kaufman, he is somewhat of an authority on independent filmmaking.

What Canon compact digital camera should I buy -- either A4000 or A2600?

Q. Which should I buy? ...it is between the Canon A4000 IS or A2600?

Technical Benefit Differences of A4000 IS the A2600 lacks I see:
1. More zoom range (8x vs.5x)
2. Optical Image Stabilization/Intelligent Image Stabilization
3. Better Macro Capability (1 cm vs. 3 cm)

Technical Benefit Differences of A2600 the A4000 lacks I see:
1. Longer Battery Life (ECO Mode -- up to 30% more pictures per battery charge)
2. Wider Aperture (f/2.8 vs. f/3.0)
3. Lower Light Exposure Sensitivity in Low Light Mode only (ISO 6400 vs. ISO 1600)
4. Digital Image Stabilization -- Yes, an added feature the A4000 lacks; but greatly inferior to Optical Image Stabilization/Intelligent Image Stabilization

The physical size, dimensions, and weight differences, are very minor to me; both relatively small. Other than these differences above, they are technically the same compact camera. The A2600 is this years (2013) new Canon compact model release -- highest model of the newest of the A-series. The A4000 IS is last years (2012) Canon compact model release -- overall highest still for this years A-series lineup.

This is just an opinion question, but if you could justify your answers as to why YOU would pick one over the other with reason, that would be great! I am stumped. I am torn between these two. Thanks!
Let me add...

If you ask what kind of pictures I generally take, I take all kinds like landscapes, portraits, close-ups, night scenes, action, etc.. Yes, a general use camera.

A. No need to enumerate what you shoot. It is expected for all cameras to do them all anyway.

Judging from those spec differences, I'd go for the A2600. Battery life would be a huge issue and it would be nice to see Canon actually address the shortness of it once and for all. Wider apertures allow for longer shooting pleasure after the sun has gone down. It also helps blur backgrounds more easily for closeup portraits.

Although I personally avoid going higher than ISO 1600, it's good to know there's more in case I really need it. Image stabilization would be great though for making razor sharp shots but it's not really that important as I am confident my hands can still hold on steadily.

Whats the best cheap yet good camcorder to use for Youtube???

Q. Hi i'm starting to make a lot of YouTube videos and it's been alright for like the first year but now I wanna take it to the next level with my camera quality. Right now i've been using my webcam because my IPhone camera broke and so I needed to use something for my YouTube videos. I think I saved up enough to get me a okay camera but it can't be in like the hundreds...I just need something that is good enough to entertain my YouTubers. I want something that has HD quality and has a mic included into it. I want probably a handycam for it and if you can please have a camcorder that is in like Best Buy or Walmart. That would really help. My time is limited so please help me as soon as possible. Thank you so much for your time. ~Sanyika~

A. Most digital cameras take video and a camera like the Fujii finepix would be great for youtube videos , it records in HD and also takes some great stills and the older models from last year and the 2013 models will be sold on black Friday for good prices probably , maybe in the $150 range which is a bargain

If you don't want to wait until then best buy has some good deals on sony , jvc and canon camcorders now , some are nearly half price . check their website and sort by price .

What Would be a Suitable Camera for Me?
Q. What are some really good cameras? I am an aspiring photographer, but I have your run-in-the-mill crappy camera. Next summer, I will be taking a school trip to Dublin, London, and Paris. I want a great quality camera for my trip but don't know where to look.
This is my ideal camera:
http://www.thephoblographer.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Chris-Gampat-The-Phoblographer-Nikon-D5200-S1-and-J3-first-impressions-CES-2013-1-of-17ISO-16001-180-sec-at-f-4.0.jpg

Is that a good camera? Or do you think I should get a different one?

A. Yes, a Nikon DSLR is an excellent camera. Your picture doesn't say which model the camera is, but all Nikon DSLR's are excellent. But then so are Canon's, Sony's, Pentax and Olympus. Look over the Nikon line and decide which meets your budget.
http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Digital-SLR-Cameras/index.page

If you can afford the D7000, wait a few months, the newer D7100 probably will be announced and you might get a price break.

A. Way overpriced laptop, get a 1500 laptop and a 1500 pc. both will be better than this laptop.

a laptop like the Sony vaio s15 with full hd screen (full ips panel).
a computer with an i5 3350p and a HD7970 is way faster than that laptop and way cheaper. also better screen.

what is a good websight to learn photography?

Q. I need a bunch of info on cameras and how to use them (Nikon) by May 11, 2013 any help would be great. THANKS

A. Cambridge in Colour is pretty good: http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/
Digital Photography School is also good http://digital-photography-school.com/
For info on camera's, brands, specifications etc, and a photography forum try DP Review http://www.dpreview.com

The brand of your camera is irrelevant - all cameras work basically the same. For the specifics of the operation/functions of your particular camera, there's the user manual that came with the camera. Keep it handy with you for reference.

BTW there is no such thing as a "websight". It's a website.

is nikon coolpix L820 camera focus is manual? and is it good?
Q. i"m looking for a good camera and i found that this one has a good price comparing with others but i want to know is the focus manual auto or manual and if that's good or not?

A. release date: Jan 2013
auto focus-yes
No issues with the specs.

Can most digital cameras now all do full hd 1080p video recording?

Q.

A. Most of them do 1080p HD video. However please be aware that most compact cameras, or smart-phones like iPhones, are not good at video recording. If light is good, they do an okay job. When light is dull, they are almost unusable. If you zoom in and do video, there can be lot of shake. You may be better off with iPhone or some digital camcorder that offers 30-40x zoom.

Read this article- it will provide you some relevant info:

How to audition for SM, JYP, and YG?
Q. So, I would like to know how to audition for SM, JYP, and YG. I already checked their official websites but I'm still confused on how to apply, as there are many ways to audition. I know for SM you can apply via email and post if you can't make it to the live auditions (global and open). But when people say online audition do they mean email audition? And to apply for global you can apply one of 3 ways: email, every sing, and online. But, are email auditions different than email applying for global auditions? And for JYP, I don't think they have global auditions, or am I wrong? The only way to apply is live in Seoul, online (only members can right?), or post, right? And YG why do they only have Global (last time I checked was in Thailand) and post! Do they have email (online auditions)? Thanks and I hope you can answer all my questions. Also,
1) Where does SM usually hold their global auditions?
2) Do you have to attach video file (dancing), MP3 file (singing), and photos? Or you can just attach two (like only photos and singing or only photos and dancing)?
I really need the answers badly because I'm planning to audition and missed out this year but hopefully will go in the future :). Wish me luck!!

A. Hey open this website ! This is really helpful to answer your question and how-to apply for SM audition :)

I don't know about YG and JYP , but i heard JYP have global audition in some country O_o i read it somewhere in y!answeer .
I've been searching in google but i can't find any YG email address to send our audition application , i heard YG only open auditions face-to-face it means they really wanna see your talent , not by video , but face-to-face .

I only find their address for sending a tape that contains our audition video

Best Digital Camera Under 200 Dollars 2013 ?

Q. Best Digital Camera Under 200 Dollars ? what is the best camera i can buy for 200 dollars or less

A. Definitely, the Canon PowerShot SX500 IS http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00908BMVE/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00908BMVE&linkCode=as2&tag=laptop058-20

It takes really great photos and videos at 1080 pixels. It has a good image stabilization and auto focus as well as a nice 30x zoom which is great. This camera has received tonnes of positive feedbacks and iI think is the best you can get for less than $200

What are some really cheap HD cameras under 200$?
Q.

A. The best camera under $200 is currently the Nikon P310.

Well, maybe under $200. Nikon had a $100 instant rebate that expired on Mar 30, 2013. Check back periodically to see if that rebate is extended or not. Otherwise, you may be spending about $50 more, which is still a good deal.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/842326-REG/Nikon_P310B_Coolpix_P300_Digital_Camera.html

This camera normally sells for $300+, but it has just been discontinued for it's replacement, the P330. Since this is an annual (or semi-annual) event with most camera manufacturers (of compact cameras), you can often pick up an outstanding camera at a low price when they first become discontinued.

However, when this happens you have to act farily quickly as the stock is limited to what is on the dealer's shelves.

Why do I like the P310?

First, it has manual exposure controls (prorgam, shutter/aperture priority, manual), This gives you maximum flexibility in composing your photos.

Second, it has a fast f/1.8 lens, which rivals even the better grade DSLR lenses. What does this mean? Superior low-light performance, as the camera will gather 2 to 4 times more light than the typical compact camera.

It also does up to 1920x1080p @ 30fps "full" HD with stereo audio. But I am not much into video so that is not something I often use. If I want to do video, I have a camcorder for that.

And I own this camera, so it is not something I would recommend without having some experience with it. While the zoom range of this camera is less than those ridiculously high-powered zooms on bridge cameras, the lens on the P310 is vastly superior to those cameras. So while you won't be able to take a photo of a bird from a mile away, you will be able to take better photos within the range of the P310's zoom.

What is a really good advanced point and shoot digital camera?

Q. My old camera, a Canon Power Shot S5IS is acting weird. Time for a new one I think.

What a a really good advanced point and shot digital camera that would be a step or two up from the Power Shot S5 IS?

My daughter shows horses, so I need something that can capture moving subject well and is good in low light conditions!!!

I want a camera that feels/looks like a SLR, but is not. I am thinking about a Nikon Coolpix L820or maybe an Olympus Stylus SP-820UZ?

Thanks!

A. You'd do better to put a Tamron 18-270 or 18-250 (not 18-200) lens on a small DSLR body like a Sony A37, or other brand of your choice to keep it affordable chose an earlier camera model. The lens can stay with you when you upgrade provided that you don't jump ship from the brand. They can all be used in auto mode just like a P&S only you can develop your skills at your own pace.

But look at the dinky little DSLR Canon recently put on the market:

But if you must have a bridge camera then Pentax made the X5 just for people like you:

If you can afford the D7000, wait a few months, the newer D7100 probably will be announced and you might get a price break.

A. Having used several DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, I like Pentax K-01 as a great camera- one of the best image quality out then in below $1000 cameras. Pentax used to sell for around $900 but their gamble with the style backfired so they are clearing them out. They currently sell for around $400 with a nice 40mm 2.8 lens.

Best filming camera to film movies?
Q. Hi! In 2015, some school mates and I are planning to shoot a remake of The Breakfast Club. It will be the 30 year anniversary and we are excited to start. Anyways, I am looking for a great filming camera for movies. I know it'll be pricey but I seem to get 0 help when I just google it. I also want to know how to make the footage have an 80s feel, quality wise. I will be using the camera that any of you suggest for a number of years and films to come, and I would also appreciate if you have any movie editing software? Thank you!

A. I am guessing you are looking to use some digital camera to film. If you are going to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a professional movie camera, please ignore rest of my answer.

Most of us know that most compact cameras, or smart-phones like iPhones, are not good at video recording. If light is good, they do an okay job. When light is dull, they are almost unusable. Same is true for most consumer SLR cameras with kit lenses. So what do we do to take high quality High-Definition videos? Should we use an HD camcoder or a pocket camcorder like Sony Bloggie or UltraHD?

Most compact cameras don't do a good job in low light- for still images or for videos. If you zoom in, the shake becomes too obvious. Most DSLRs will do a little better as light level goes down but many of them will not auto focus during videos (because of the mirror which needs to be flipped for focusing). You can bypass this with a mirrorless camera which can auto focus, like Panasonic G or GF series but with Auto focus, you lose the control over which part of the frame, or on which person to focus on. If you have 3 persons in a frame, your Auto-Focus will not know which one you want to focus on. Why not? Silly, it is Auto-focus! It focuses by itself!! That is the reason you never see a professional movie or videos done with Autofocus.

Now read an article here which can give you nice tips:

help to buy entry level DSLR?

Q. Hi Folks,

I am much interested in photography since my childhood. But till I was using Canon A3100 Point and Shoot camera.

I am willing to buy an entry level DSLR as I am an amateur. I googled much but arrived in a confusion. I have shortlisted 2 models. Please suggest the best one.

1) Canon 600 D - heard many positive reviews, but lens cost is more and there is no auto focus in video mode.

2) Sony SLT A58 - heard that lens costs cheaper. But is it rare in market ? I think auto focus in video mode is available.

A. Actually Canon has some great value priced lenses. Sony has limited line up of lenses and they are normally expensive.
Here is an article that should help you with your first DSLR purchase:
http://photography-with-any-camera.blogspot.com/2013/05/best-digital-slr-for-beginners.html

Also, don't buy a camcorder for video as one answerer suggested unless you don't care much about quality. With a right lens, an SLR will take much better video than any consumer grade camcorder. With SLR you can do selective focusing but a camcorder will give you flat videos- everything always in focus. Here is another read for you:

Nikon D3100 or D80...?
Q. l am looking into buying my first DSLR camera,I really want it for family pictures and baby portraits. So I have been looking into refurbished cameras and I found two that I am really debating between. I am obviously no pro so I understand that if I am bad a taking pictures it really wouldn't matter if I got the best one. My question is which of the two should I go with for the price? There is the Nikon d3100 or the Nikon d80. They are both the same exact price which of the two should I go for?

A. There is no comparison as such. You should go with D3100 as it has a newer sensor, shoots HD video and has newer technology. At some point, you would want to shoot a video too of your baby.
D80 used to be popular in its days, mostly for its build quality but as you are going to shoot indoor, build quality is not something you need to 'invest' in.
Now as you want to use the camera mostly for family abd baby photos, you should buy one of the following lenses. For indoor photos and for portraits, these lenses will take you far far ahead than where D80 or D3100 can take.

Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras by Nikon- around $200
Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras by Nikon - around $100

These lenses will let you shoot in low light and will give nice background blurring with F1.8- F2 in Aperture Priority mode. Once you see the photos with these two lense, I am sure you will come back to this post and would want to thank me for this advice.

Read this article:

Good luck.

Which camera should I buy?
Q. I need a really good camera in april (2013), I'm thinking of buying a nikon 1 J1 but I'm not sure, the nikon 1 J2 is too expensive if you look at the differences with the J1 . Shoul I buy a nikon 1 J1? Or is there a better camera in the market which is cheaper or around the same price? It must be digital and have a (not too) big lens. thanks!

A. Look at the Nikon V1. They are ridiculously low priced right now ($299) while stock is left or until Dec 30. If you wait until April 2013, this deal (and all remaining V1s) will likely be gone.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/823590-REG/Nikon_27504_Nikon_1_V1_Mirrorless.html

The original MSRP of $899 for the V1 was way too overpriced, but at $299, it is very attractive.

The V1 is an upscale version of the J1, and may or may not be to your liking, but at the price they are selling for, it is an easy decision. The main differences are that the V1 has an electronic viewfinder, and lacks an internal flash, when compared to the J1. It is also slightly larger and heavier, as it has a larger battery, giving about 25% more capacity. The V1 also has both electronic and manual shutters, whereas the J1 only has an electronic shutter.

Oddly enough, the V1 is priced about $100 less than the least expensive J1 that I can find, but if you buy the optional flash for the V1, it will be about $30 more than the J1.

Some reviews have the J1 with a slightly better image than the V1. I am highly skeptical about that as they are essentially the same camera; same sensor, and same digital processor, same lenses.

The only thing I can fathom is that the J1 has a different set of presets than the V1 (which is the old Canon trick), and/or not every reviewer necessarily knows what they are doing anyway.

There is one under Awboater's Christmas tree.

Kodak Easyshare camera will not charge?

Q. My Kodak Easyshare will not charge brand new battery and using my ac charger, the light blinks a few seconds and then goes off it will not charge enough to bring the lens back into place. Does a ac charger go bad ive had this camera for appr 5 yrs? Ive tried plugging it into different outlets and it still will not make the green light stay on. I love this camera and really would like to know if its worth saving.
Duracell still sells the batteries for the Kodak Easyshare which i recently bought directly through their online store. So it doesn't appear to be the battery it was working fine up until a couple days ago.

A. Chargers can and do go bad over the years, but the more likely suspect would be the camera's battery. You'll have a tough time getting support for your 5-year old Kodak Easyshare, as Kodak got out of the digital camera business and went through bankruptcy.
http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2013/06/20/kodak-bankruptcy-nears-end/2442147/

In my humble opinion, it's time for a new camera, and from a more reliable brand such as Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Sony, Fujifilm, Samsung, etc. Avoid Kodak, Vivitar, and any camera you'd find in a blister pack hanging on a peg at Walmart.

What camera should I get?
Q. I'm looking for a point and shoot camera that I can use above and under water. I'm not completely sure to what depth under water but I would love to use it while scuba diving which I'm guessing would require a housing? High res is important.

I need a new digital camera!!!!?
Q. I really need a new digital camera! It needs to take good to decent photos and I would like it to be water proof. My budget is from 100-150 or a little higher depending on how much I like the camera. If you have a recommendation please leave a link to the camera below. I also wanted to ask what camera brand is better than the others I know Kodak is terrible then there's Sony, canon, Nikon which are the most familiar to me. I know there are the goods and the bads of each brand but in general which is the best for digital cameras. Thank you for your time best answer gets 10 points !!!!! 😃
